East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office has accused four men of directly participating in or witnessing an alleged sexual assault of a very impaired and unable-to-consent Brooks before dropping her off on a dark side of the roadway where she would later be fatally injured.

Brooks and the four suspects met at Reggie’s Bar in Baton Rouge on January 14. Footage from the bar shows Brooks falling over several times, stumbling and struggling to stand in front of at least one of the suspects before they left the bar together, according to an arrest warrant.

Before the group left the bar, Brooks asked 4 men to drop her off, according to a police interview.

Two defendants, including an unidentified minor, allegedly asked Brooks to have sex.

Although one of the defendants said that Brooks consented to engage in intercourse, he admitted that she was “very unstable on her feet, was not able to keep her balance, and was unable to speak clearly without slurring her words.”

The two defendants proceeded to rape Brooks in the car while two other men sat in the front seats.

Brooks was unable to tell them where she lived and the men dropped her off in a subdivision.

While standing in a dark portion of the roadway around 3 am on January 15, Brooks was hit by a vehicle and died hours later in the hospital.

Her blood alcohol level was 0.319% at the time of her death…indicating that she was severely inebriated and was 4 times the legal limit…

Brooks’ death strikes a campus community that has faced enormous scrutiny over alcohol-related deaths and sexual assault and harassment, including the 2017 death of our client, LSU student and fraternity pledge Max Gruver, who died from alcohol poisoning after a night of drinking at his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. He had been hazed and forced to drink hard alcohol.

Gruver’s blood-alcohol level was .495, six times the legal limit to drive.

Brooks allegedly worked at Reggie’s Bar, which has a reputation for serving minors. The license of the bar has since been suspended, like it was back in 2017 when 37 people were arrested for underage drinking.

Brooks allegedly had been a regular and was spotted behind the bar with her two LSU Alpha Phi sorority sisters, who were also employed at the same place, as per photographs posted on social media. It also allegedly offered cover for any girls who have been part of a sorority to offer them cheap drinks, a business move to reach out to more college students.

Reggie’s Bar had been in the news previously for several past incidents, including a 19-year-old man who was charged with rape after allegedly assaulting an intoxicated woman while leaving Reggie’s in 2015. In 2016, Dillon Gordon, 22, an LSU soccer player, was allegedly stabbed at the bar. In another incident, a 16-year-old boy, was allegedly shot outside the bar.
