Clemson University has suspended a fraternity after conducting an investigation into reports of hazing that took place in April.
An inquiry into Alpha Gamma Rho, as mandated by the Tucker Hipps Transparency Act, has prompted its suspension until 2027 due to incidents of hazing such as line-ups; these would take the form of military-style assemblies of pledges, at times involving intimidation, physical mistreatment, or challenges; also, pledges were subjected to sleep deprivation, as well as being made to do personal servitude and “chemical burn” activities.
In 2014, the Tucker Hipps Transparency Act was set in place following the tragic discovery of Clemson student Tucker Hipps, 19, who had gone missing on a fraternity pledge run and was later found deceased in a lake.
