The death of a popular Florida State University student found unresponsive inside the Sigma Phi Epsilon house in December has been determined accidental, according to an autopsy released late Tuesday.
The District Two Medical Examiner’s Office said the death of William Eppes Proctor, 22, was due to “right epidural hematoma due to laceration of the right middle meningeal artery as a consequence of blunt-force head trauma.”
Listed as contributing causes in the death were acute ethanolism (alcohol poisoning) and cocaine abuse, the report stated.
Proctor’s blood toxicology report was 0.082. A person is considered legally intoxicated with a reading of .08.
Per police, hazing is not suspected, but they are still in the middle of this investigation. They don’t suspect foul play.
Proctor was found unresponsive on Dec. 6 in his bed at the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house on Lafayette Street. Attempts by his fraternity brothers, and later emergency responders, were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
