A grand jury has indicted nine people in connection with the death of Ohio University student Collin Wiant in 2018.
Wiant died after alleged hazing at the Sigma Pi Epsilon chapter at the university last November. The Athens County coroner said he died of asphyxiation due to nitrous oxide ingestion. Court documents showed there were several “Whip-It” canisters around the room.
Androsac, 20, was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter. Angell-Perez was charged with Permitting Drug Abuse, a felony of the fifth degree, Hazing, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree, and Trafficking in Cocaine, a felony of the fifth degree.
Figliola was charged with Permitting Drug Abuse, a felony of the fifth degree, Hazing, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree; Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs, a felony of the fourth degree, and Failure to Comply with Underage Alcohol Laws, an unclassified misdemeanor.
Gustafson was charged with Reckless Homicide. Court documents show he made the 911 call from the fraternity Annex on Nov. 12, 2018.
Herskovitz, 22, was charged with Permitting Drug Abuse, a felony of the fifth degree, Hazing, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree. McLaughlin, 20, was charged with two counts of Trafficking in L.S.D., felonies of the fifth degree.
Wahib, 22, was charged with Tampering with Evidence, a felony of the third degree; Permitting Drug Abuse, a felony of the fifth degree; Hazing, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree, Assault, a misdemeanor of the first degree, Obstructing Justice, a felony of the fifth degree,e and Failure to Comply with Underage Alcohol Laws, an unspecified misdemeanor.
Wanke, 25, of Silver Serpent, LLC, was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, a felony of the first degree, two counts of trafficking in Harmful Intoxicants, felonies of the fifth degree, Involuntary Manslaughter, a felony of the third degree, and Improperly Dispensing or Distributing Nitrous Oxide, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree. Wanke will appear before Judge Patrick J. Lang for arraignment on Nov. 20. 2019, at 9:15 a.m.
Those accused were called before the Court of Common Pleas for arraignment. Anyone who has not appeared – or made arrangements to appear – will have nationwide arrest warrants issued.
